The “Nofshon Shomron” Israel volunteer organization hosts activities for retarded and extremely autistic children from all over Israel. Every weekend, these school-aged children enjoy an amazing Shabbat experience at the Nofshon Shomron’s facilities on the campus of Yeshivat Hesder Karnei Shomron. During the 30-hour program, the altruistic volunteers care for the children’s many physical needs, and most importantly, they provide entertainment, love, and a sense of worth.
Our volunteer care-givers are super-motivated high school juniors and seniors, and university students.
Our campus facilities at include a cozy “Snooze-land white room” to stimulate individual senses, a large common room, a “gymboree” play area and a “Gan Dalia” outdoor play area.
Since 2011, the organization has run a 5 day summer sleepaway camp, and a 3 day Chanukah-winter sleepaway camp, which includes day trips and in-house entertainment. The experience is phenomenal for our campers, many of whom had not been eligible to participate in any other special camp because their needs are so acute. The parents of these children enjoy a week-long respite from the round-the-clock care these children need during summer vacation. All 60 campers attend the summer camp, accompanied by 120 volunteer assistant counselors. The camp’s purpose is to provide the children with a week of fun and unforgettable experiences, as well as giving parents a short rest during the summer break.
